Repair Station: Advice with Repair Rebels & live content

“Live survey: “How sustainable is Düsseldorf?”

Together with Repair Rebels and the bruddhaTV team, we immerse ourselves in the exciting world of textile and fashion repairs. In our interactive format, we explore live how sustainable Düsseldorf really is: who repairs their own clothes, who has them repaired, and what role do professional repair experts play in the city?

Look forward to exciting conversations and interesting insights directly on site! There will also be a drop-off station where you can hand in your favourite items. We will be happy to advise you on repair options or answer any other questions you may have. 💙💚

Upcycling Deluxe:

Discover the Japanese embroidery technique Saschiko with pialana

Don’t be afraid of needle and thread. Learn Visible Mending with embroidered geometric patterns. Please bring along a favourite textile in need of repair. We will embellish stains, holes and areas that have become thin. In this workshop we will be inspired by the traditional Japanese mending technique Sashiko. In this technique, areas of fabric that have become thin or holes are embroidered with a simple line pattern to strengthen them. This technique is used to utilise leftovers, avoid waste, extend the life of textiles and create individual items of clothing.

Repair or alter garments

Become a designer yourself with slowsetter

Make your piece a favourite again – for garments that could do with an update. Beautiful details for a repair, alteration of your garment or perhaps you’d rather upcycle it and make something completely new out of it?

We develop ideas, make plans, patterns and implement them directly so that you can enjoy using your favourite item again. Bring at least 1 item of clothing that you no longer like to wear or that is damaged and we will turn it back into a favourite item. (Alternatively, you can also bring a piece of fabric, textile material, a bag or similar).

Sometimes it’s very small things, sometimes it’s more. Depending on how big your project is…in the end you will have your “new” favourite piece ready or everything prepared to continue with your concrete plan.

Walk-in workshops on the topic of repair with SBYD – Folkwang University Essen

Patch-it! – Walk-in workshop for remodelling and repairing clothes

Bring along an item of clothing that you no longer wear because you no longer like it, it has stains or holes or you have simply forgotten about it. We have numerous patches made from a wide variety of old textiles that you can use to give your clothes a striking makeover or subtly repair them. Come by and we’ll help you turn your unloved item of clothing into something you’ll love to wear again.

The workshop is organised by SPACE FOR SUSTAINABILITY BY DESIGN – an innovative university project of the Folkwang University of the Arts, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Joint Science Conference.

DAINTY DYSTOPIA’s Botanical Dye Studio

In DAINTY DYSTOPIA’s Botanical Dye Workshop you will discover the basics of dyeing with botanical dyes: which fabrics can be dyed with natural dyes and how do the fabrics have to be pre-treated and stained? In the taster course you will learn about different techniques and create your own sample with flowers and dyeing materials.
